The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program is a federally funded, locally administered program that assists very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. A housing subsidy is paid to the property owner directly by the Authority on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program. The amount the family pays generally does not exceed 40 percent of their adjusted monthly income.
The Authority provides information to help our participants report family and income changes, contact staff, and find out more about our policies.
A cornerstone of the HCV program is the participation of the property owners who make their properties available for rent to the residents we serve. The Authority partners with over 3,500 landlords to provide affordable, decent, safe and sanitary housing to HCV program participants.
