The Rancilio Silvia is a coffee maker designed for home use. This machine is built with commercial-grade materials, such as a brass boiler, a stainless steel housing and an articulating steam wand made of chrome-plated brass. The machine also features a 3-way solenoid valve, which means it releases excess pressure from the boiler, providing a dry coffee puck and a smooth extraction. The large water reservoir can hold up to 2 litres and the cup warmer on the top of the machine is heated by a dedicated heating element. The Rancilio Silvia has a single boiler and is equipped with a commercial-grade filter holder that allows users to brew espresso using ground coffee or ESE pods. The machine also has a hot water dispenser that can be used for making Americanos or tea, and an illuminated switch that indicates when the machine is on. This coffee maker is not beginner-friendly, and it requires some practice to master the art of brewing excellent espresso. However, for those willing to put in the time and effort, the Rancilio Silvia can produce café-quality espresso in the comfort of their homes.

How often a coffee machine needs to be descaled depends on how often it is used and the hardness of the water. If hard water is used it is recommended to descale once a month, if soft water is used once a quarter is sufficient.
To descale the coffee maker, it is recommended to use a liquid descaling agent which is labelled as suitable for coffee machines.
