Walnut Hills High School Entrance Exam
Thank you for your interest in Walnut Hills High School. Walnut Hills High School, established in 1895, is a nationally recognized college preparatory school serving students in grades 7 through 12. Upon graduation, many students are accepted to the finest universities and colleges in America. To be eligible to enroll, students must earn qualifying scores on the CPS administered Iowa Assessment, also called the Walnut Hills Entrance Exam (WHEE).

Testing for Currently Enrolled CPS 6th Grade Students
All CPS 6th grade students will have the opportunity to take the WHEE at their home school. For students that do not receive qualifying scores in the Fall, there is an optional second opportunity at the students' school of enrollment during the month of January 2025. Registration for a retake is required. Registration instructions will be provided with the student’s scores from the Fall testing opportunity.
- October 7 - November 1, 2024 at CPS Home School.
- January 6 - 24, 2025 Retake opportunity at CPS Home School.
Testing for Currently Enrolled CPS 7-11th Grade Students
Students currently enrolled in a CPS school in grades 7 through 11 have the option to take the WHEE on a Saturday testing date. Students are allowed to take the exam twice per school year. Registration is required. Students who test in the 2024-2025 school year and earn qualifying scores will be eligible for enrollment at Walnut Hills High School Enrollment in the 2025-2026 school year.
Students not currently enrolled in a CPS school in grades 6 through 11 have the option to take the WHEE on a Saturday testing date. Students are allowed to take the exam twice per year. Registration is required. Students who test in the 2024-2025 school year and earn eligible scores will be eligible for Walnut Hills High School Enrollment in the school year 2025-2026. Students who test for the first time December 7, 2024 or January 11, 2025 will not have an opportunity to retest this school year.
